Talos Ventures — About Us
Talos Ventures is a Canadian venture company that develops and backs agentic AI systems operating at the edge of what is technically possible — and commercially necessary.
Our Mission
We believe the most consequential applications of artificial intelligence are not in consumer apps or enterprise software — they are at the physical and informational edge. In the security systems that protect small businesses. In the home agents that allow elderly people to age with dignity. In the research engines that find patterns invisible to human analysts. In the digitization pipelines that unlock centuries of inaccessible knowledge. This is where we build.
Who We Are
Talos Ventures is not a venture capital fund that invests in other companies. We are a venture builder — we conceive, design, build, and operate our own systems. Every vertical in our portfolio was created internally, built on our shared agentic AI infrastructure, and is operated by our team.
This distinction matters. We have deep operational skin in the game on every system we build. Our interests are aligned completely with our investors — we succeed when our systems succeed in the market, not when we deploy capital.
We are headquartered in Canada, with operations spanning defence technology, consumer AI safety systems, knowledge infrastructure, and quantitative research. All of our systems share a common architecture: local-first, agentic, and built for domains where existing solutions are either too expensive or too simple.
Our Origin
Talos Ventures grew out of Talos Advanced Systems, our Canadian defence technology subsidiary. The experience of building next-generation protective equipment for allied armed forces — navigating complex procurement, sovereign manufacturing requirements, and demanding performance standards — shaped how we think about building any technology system.
We learned that the best technology is not the most technically impressive — it is the technology that solves a real problem, works reliably in the field, and can be manufactured and supported at scale. These principles carry directly into our AI ventures.
The decision to expand into agentic AI came from recognising that the same design principles that make great defence equipment — edge operation, local data sovereignty, autonomous decision-making, reliability over flash — are exactly the principles that make great AI systems for the markets we serve.
What We Stand For
These are not aspirational values on a wall. They are the design constraints we apply to every system we build — non-negotiable requirements that shape every architecture decision.
Every system we build runs locally. Data stays where it belongs — with the person or organisation it serves. No cloud dependency means no cloud failure, no data breach risk, and no subscription cancellation that takes your security system offline.
Our agents are built to perceive, decide, and act without human intervention for routine operations. They surface exceptions to humans — not everything. The goal is to reduce cognitive load, not add to it.
In our elder care and security systems, dignity is a design constraint — not an afterthought. Systems that surveil rather than protect, that intrude rather than assist, are failures regardless of their technical performance.
We design, build, and operate in Canada. Our supply chains, our data infrastructure, and our talent are Canadian. We believe sovereign capability in critical technology systems is a strategic necessity, not a preference.
We deliberately target markets where enterprise AI is too expensive and consumer AI is too simple. The small business that cannot afford a security operations centre. The family that cannot afford a care home. The researcher who cannot access a rare library.
Our systems are explainable. Our algorithms are interpretable. Our data practices are disclosed. We do not build black boxes for domains where trust is the product. If you cannot understand what our system is doing and why, we have failed.
How We Build
Every vertical we build shares the same foundational architecture and the same development philosophy. This is not a coincidence — it is a deliberate design decision that creates compounding advantages as the portfolio grows.
All Talos systems are built on a common agentic AI framework — the same perception, decision, and action architecture adapted for each domain. Breakthroughs in one vertical propagate across the portfolio. The security agent's computer vision advances benefit the elder care agent. The knowledge engine's information extraction capabilities benefit the alpha research system.
We do not build technology and then look for a market. We identify domains where the gap between what exists and what is needed is large, where our architectural approach is a natural fit, and where we can develop genuine domain expertise. The technology follows the problem — not the other way around.
Every system we build is deployed in a real environment before we scale. We learn from actual usage, actual users, and actual failure modes — not from laboratory conditions. Our pilot programmes are structured partnerships, not beta tests. Pilot partners get full support. We get the data we need to build the right product.
We are not building for an acquisition exit in 18 months. We are building systems that will operate for decades — in homes, in businesses, in research institutions, and in the field. This shapes everything from our architecture choices to our data practices to the contracts we sign with our partners. Durability is a design requirement.
The Portfolio
Six verticals. One architecture. Each system is a standalone venture that can succeed independently — and becomes more valuable as part of an integrated portfolio.
Canadian by Design
Canada is at an inflection point in its relationship with technology sovereignty. The concentration of critical AI infrastructure in foreign jurisdictions — and the data flows that accompany it — represents a strategic vulnerability that Canadian organisations are only beginning to reckon with.
Talos Ventures exists in part as a response to this reality. Every system we build keeps data in Canada, operates on Canadian infrastructure, and is supported by Canadian talent. This is not nationalism — it is pragmatism. Sovereign capability in critical systems is a competitive advantage.
For our defence subsidiary, Canadian sovereign manufacturing is a procurement requirement. For our AI ventures, Canadian data sovereignty is a trust advantage. In both cases, building in Canada is not a constraint — it is a differentiator.
